I am not one for new year’s resolutions as I think they are pointless. I’m sure most people have heard about the study which says only 80% people actually achieve their new year’s resolution! However, I always like to have goals to work towards.
That’s why I have written a list of things I would like to master in 2020:
Find a workout I enjoy and do it more.
I’ll be honest I’m such a couch potato. There’s nothing I prefer than getting home, chucking on my pyjamas and getting into bed to watch YouTube. It’s an even mixture of my depression, general laziness and busy schedule that stops me working out. However, I know how important getting your body moving is. Not only for your physical health but your mental health. I have been struggling a lot recently with depression and anxiety and I think exercising will help boost my mood – as well as relieve any stress I have. My only issue is actually figuring how I would like to workout.
I’ve tried burlesque dancing, Clubbercise as well as going to the gym but I’ve never kept any exercise classes up. I cannot dance for shit and I find the gym boring. In 2020, I would like to find an exercise class or workout routine that I enjoy and stick to it.
Create healthier habits.
As mentioned above, my mental health has been shocking as of recent. And with poor mental health often comes lots of habits that aren’t particularly good for you. Take staying up until 5am in the morning or eating shit everyday like pizza, McDonalds and sweets. I’m sure that once I start exercising and addressing my depression/anxiety through therapy that everything will fall back into place. But I would like to maintain healthy habits throughout the year. This includes going to bed at a reasonable time and eating more nutritious meals.
Learn how to budget and save money.
Following on from 2019, I aim to nail my spending habits and actually start saving money. After all, I would really like to be able to buy a house one day (even if it is in like thirty years lmao) and make smart choices with my money. I am going to start the new year by clearing my credit card debt. I’ve racked up a small amount on my cards, which wasn’t planned. However, after that, I will start adding money to my savings. My sister has also created a fun, little budget sheet I can use to help me manage my money.
Write a blog weekly.
When it comes to my actual blog (the one you’re reading right now), I’ve been slacking a bit. I post on Instagram every single day but when it comes to my blog, I’m lucky if I get something up once a month. However, I would like this to change. After all, Instagram is a platform owned by Facebook and one day, it could easily be deleted. For bloggers/influencers, it would mean all of their following, engagement and influence would disappear. However, this domain is owned by me! And only I can decide when this stops. Therefore, I would like to post more on this website.
Learn a new skill.
Amongst all of my other goals for the new year, I would like to learn something new to keep my brain stimulated and give me something to do outside of work and blogging. I’ve started learning German as it was something I enjoyed at school but never bothered to continue it. It sounds silly but learning German is also helping me feel more connected to my ancestors. When I started doing research on my genealogy, I found that my great-grandmother was German. I also did a DNA test which showed I was a quarter German so it only feels right to understand the language.
