One of the things they don’t tell you when you start fashion blogging is how expensive it can be. There’s an assumption that everything we receive has been gifted to us but when you’re starting out, planning outfits can get extremely expensive. I know from personal experience that you quickly start thinking “I MUST purchase new clothes every week so I have outfits for the ‘gram!” But this isn’t true. In fact, it is possible to be a plus-size blogger on a budget and I’m here to explain how.
I have been in the blogging community for two years now and I have learnt a thing or two in my time. Here are my top three ways you can join the plus size blogging community without splashing out the cash:
- Purchase pre-loved clothing from other bloggers. If you’re looking to post about the latest trends but cannot afford to completely overhaul your wardrobe for the season, try looking out for your favourite bloggers and influencers selling clothing they have never worn or have worn once. I have done this in the past – and I’ve sold clothes before. There was a really beautiful dress I liked on ASOS but I didn’t want to pay £55 for it. However, I saw it on someone I follow’s Depop account and decided to buy it for half the price. Not only are you saving money but you are also helping to reduce textile waste and recycling.(A quick little plug – I’m selling some of my clothes on eBay at the moment if you want to take a look – https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/emilycrosby)
- Allocate a clothing budget for every month. When you own a blog or Instagram, you’re bound to want to buy new clothing. It’s just human nature! Therefore, it’s important to set a strict budget that suits your lifestyle. In the past, I have spent lotttssss of money on clothes and it hasn’t been a great thing for my expenses. Like maybe £400 a month on new outfits… And I definitely didn’t have the money to buy this clothing! For 2020, I have set myself a budget of £100 to spend on buying new clothes. I know it will be challenging but I would like to buy a house one day lol.
- Challenge yourself to re-style old outfits. I don’t know about anyone else but I feel like there’s a pressure to not repeat any outfits on Instagram. This makes it extremely hard for fashion bloggers on a budget to consistently post content. I would recommend challenging yourself to style an outfit in different ways. It could be one of those ‘day to night outfit’ transitions or ‘how to wear’ a certain item of clothing in five ways. This way, you can make the most of your purchases!
That’s all from me for now but I would love to hear all of your tips! How do you save money while blogging? And what’s the best budgeting tip you have?

A very good point, I’d never thought about the cost implications. I’d like to challenge you to post 1 outfit styled 3 ways!
