Jos Buttler, the captain of England, said that Afghanistan “outplayed” his team after the team suffered a shocking World Cup loss in Delhi.
Set 285 to win after deciding to the field, the underdogs won a World Cup game for just the second time by skittling out England for just 215.
After winning the toss and choosing to field, Buttler expressed disappointment at the post-game presentation. Congratulations to Afghanistan; they outperformed us today. It’s a tough loss to accept. It’s all about execution, and with the ball and the bat, we weren’t quite where we wanted to be. They have a tremendously sophisticated assault and several excellent spin bowlers.
“You must allow these setbacks to hurt, ponder, and focus on the areas where we need to improve. We’re quite resilient, and we’ll fight back.
The World Cup champions of England, who have already dropped two of their first three games, are now in danger of missing out on a spot in the semifinals.
Buttler continued on Sky Sports, “We’ll let tonight sink in before thinking about that.”
I’ve had a couple of low points in my career thus far. Going back to 2019, we lost a few games in the early going, which put us in a situation where we needed to win and were capable of doing so.
Michael Atherton, a former England captain, praised Afghanistan highly and said that England was constantly chasing the game.
“I thought they started badly, sloppily, five wides at the start, a misfield,” he said in an interview with Sky Sports. They simply appeared a little out of step, which establishes the tone. Nobody played as well as Harry Brook did. They suffered a heavy loss.
They have suffered two devastating losses. They haven’t left themselves with a lot of room for mistakes. “It is the greatest night in (Afghanistan’s) cricket history. “It’s been an amazing rise to prominence, cricket in Afghanistan, and this is their high point to beat the World Cup holders,” said a sports commentator of Afghanistan’s victory against England.
It’s a really happy moment to be here defeating the world champions, a tremendous achievement for the entire nation and the squad, Player of the Match Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who took three wickets, said Sky Sports. Both the bowlers and the batsman had excellent performances.
