On Saturday, the 2023 edition of the Gold Cup will feature a fantastic lineup for the major final as well as a great supporting program.
My first pick, Trap 5 Docktechnik Diva, competes in the second race at 7:39 and hasn’t won in her previous 11 appearances, although she has finished ninth nine times. Although she lacks early speed, she maintains a steady pace, and I believe that shifting her seeding to the outer will be her turning point. She has a fantastic opportunity to eventually lose the maiden tag.
I favor Trap 2 Capitan Garfio in race three at 7.58 because he has strong early gears and can perform well if he displays his pace until the first curve. Last week’s stunning winner, Trap 4 Millroad Bolger, could have a chance to repeat.
With my third pick, Trap 4 Disco Pants, I’m taking a chance on the grand final itself at 9.09. He is a skilled person who ran a strong race in loss last week and can pick up the pieces if there are potential problems on the inside between runners. This race is filled with early speed from the inside two runners who were both flawless in the semi-finals.
In Race 10 at 9.50 p.m., Trap 1 Bockos Crystal, who won over course and distance upon her return to the track after a hiatus, is my last pick. She has to get fitter and, if she uses the inside rail to her advantage, she can beat Romeo Magico, a kennel mate who could require the run.
